It really depends on the type of biopsy you're having performed. I had a core needle biopsy done. They deadened the area first and it wasn't painful....just a little uncomfortable that's all. I had to hold my arm above my head for a little while and it was sore. It was worth it finding my cancer so I could begin treatment. :)
It depends on where the biopsy is located. I would arrange for a driver. I had 3 done- 2 in breast, 1 in lymph node. Lymph node area has more nerve endings and tends to be more painful area, but mine was ok. I had a hemotobin from first breast tumor biopsied, so that hurt. That's an atypical experience though. The other 2 did not hurt. The anesthetic shot was worse than the biopsy. Good luck!
Ask for them to initially numb the area with lidocaine and bicarbonate. The bicarbonate takes away the stinging sensation of the lidocaine. If it is done correctly, you won't feel anything but a tiny stick! =)
I had two core biopsies last week, still waiting the results. The area is anaethetised, it was not sore the only thing that was uncomfortable was the doctor pressing the ultrasound very firmly on my breast. all the best to you.

I found it to not be painful at all. Noisy, like getting your ear pierced. Even the needle to numb me wasn't bad. Nothing to be scared of! :-)
