Sorry - I misspelled it. Brachytherapy. In my case, a balloon connected to a tube was placed in the space the tumor had been. Then I had twice a day radiation for five days - radioactive pellets were inserted through the tube for around 8 minutes and then sucked back out. Following the last treatment, the balloon and tube were removed. During the treatment I was at home, driving myself to treatments.

Brachytherapy is an advanced cancer treatment. It is radiation therapy given at a short distance: localized, precise, and high-tech.Radioactive seeds or sources are placed in or near the tumor itself, giving a high radiation dose to the tumor while reducing the radiation exposure in the surrounding healthy tissues.

any experience with pre-existing nerve damage and brachytherapy? I have RSD in the breast and newer nerve damage from the lymphadenectomy.

The process itself was somewhat surreal but the outcome is great. Little fatigue, only a small amount of redness, which surfaced weeks following treatment. I do not know if this is true for others or if the worst is yet to come. (I finished treatment 2 1/2 months ago.)

I had Brachytherapy. I was lucky to be able to have it. Everything involved went smoothly, I had no adverse effects at all.

Just finished mammosite therapy (radiation through a baloon catheter that was inserted into my tumor cavity...twice a day for five days) last week and I have to say that it went quite smoothly. Other than having this catheter inside my breast and not being able to shower for over a week, I was amazed just how easy it was. I would highly recommend it if you are lucky enough to fit the criteria. One week of therapy vs. 6 weeks of therapy was a no-brainer for me.
