A lumpectomy does NOT involve drains. I went back to work an the fourth day after a partial masectomy. No drains involved in that either. Hope the nodes are clear. The lymph test makes you pee blue that day only. You will be a smurf.

They were done in the same operation but had their own incisions. They are parallel about 10cms apart, horizontally.

I must make a small correction. My earlier post said sentinel node biopsy and it should have been removal.

That will be enough time if your company lets you come back with drains.

I did a lumpectomy and had 2 drains. It depends on your type of cancer and size of your mass.

      I had Invasive Lobular.
The MRI made them think it was small it was 5.2 the first surgery. To get clean margin had to do a 2nd surgery ended up with 7.3 Cm two drains later I was cancer free.

Pain tolerable. The drain is a nuisance . Ask your doctor about breast reconstruction options BEFORE radiation if it is recommended . Good luck! We are in your corner!!!

Little to no pain at all. It helps to wear a sports bra after the surgery, don't wear bras with wires.

Lumpectomy done with no drain. Little pain. The anesthesiologist just hurt my uvula. They had a difficult time intubating me. I feel okay. a little sore from sentinel node biopsy.

Definitely ask about about reconstruction. I had a lumpectomy in 200 with 35 radiation. Treatments. Cancer was stage 0 & non invasive DCIS . In March of 2014 I had a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. Due to radiation on left breast I was limited to size because skin get tough after radiation treatments. The end result was. Full B which I'm happy with.

Ruth I had very little Pain just swelling under arm where lymph nodes were removed. I also had a 2nd surgery a week after to clear margin. This was considered a partial mastectomy but still no pain. YES it was more of mental anguish. You will b right back to work after. I also had 35 radiation treatments which was easy to handle & pain free. Prayers to you.

I did and it wasn't too bad. My job was pretty stressfully at times so it's possible that the stress was partially the cause of my mild fatigue. Just be good to yourself and play it by ear.

Hi I didn't work during radiation my job allowed me to stay home for 6 months. I could have because the pain was minimal. My whole experience including the 2nd surgery was really easy. You will do just fine.

I did have one drain which came out 5 days later. I took it easy the first few days and had little to no pain. If your job is not physically demanding, 6 days should be fine. If you do a lot of moving, lifting, etc. you may want to consider a few more days.
